Promote veteran suicide awareness at tonight's PHS-STA boys lacrosse game

Portsmouth Herald - 5/9/2018

PORTSMOUTH - Tonight's Division II varsity boys lacrosse game between Portsmouth High School and St. Thomas Aquinas will be a "Military Appreciation Night." The game is scheduled for 6:30 at Tom Daubney Field.

PHS seniors Luke Squire and Jobin Chavez took it upon themselves to put together a fundraising effort in support of "Active Heroes," an organization dedicated to veteran suicide prevention.

Organizers are asking all players to buy/donate a $5 wristband, which will be worn in recognition of Veterans Suicide Prevention and the Active Heroes organization. Twenty push-ups will be executed by the players and coaches from both teams prior to the game to help bring awareness to the number of veteran suicides that take place in the United States every day.

There will also be a 50/50 raffle during the game with proceeds benefiting Active Heroes. Spectators will have the option of participating through the purchase of a wristband or by participating in the 50/50 raffle.
